Sooooooo, this happened–this being my début in From, the horror series on MGM+ (Paramount+ here in Canada). As I mentioned in an earlier post, I originally auditioned for this series a few years ago, before the first season. I read for two different characters and was called back, but didn’t land either of them. So I promptly forgot all about it. Then, out of the blue, I get a call from my agent last March, asking for an availability check for the next month. I didn’t have anything coming up, so I said “Sure, I’m available for, like, the rest of my life!” Anyway, long story short, a little less than four weeks later, I was asked to audition again for the series, this time for a character in the final episode of the series’ third season, a guy known only as “The Man in the Yellow Suit.” I read for it on a Saturday afternoon, found out that evening that I’d been booked for the role, and was on a plane at 8:00am on Monday, on my way to Halifax to shoot. I won’t spoil anything for you by giving out too much information here, but if you’re not familiar with the series and you’re curious to know what it’s all about, I strongly suggest you sign up for Paramount+ or MGM+ or whatever streaming service it’s being shown on in your area and check it out. It’s a brilliant piece of work. When I first auditioned for it, I was struck by the quality of the writing. I remember thinking to myself, “This thing is going to be awesome.” Well, the finished product certainly doesn’t disappoint. Check it out. You can read up on the series on www.imdb.com.
Suffice to say that that season finale created quite an uproar amongst the Fromily, as fanbase for the series (and many people connected with it, for that matter) refer to themselves. For the first time in my life, I suddenly find myself the subject of a whole lot of online scrutiny. It’s been an interesting journey so far. I’m curious to see where this all leads in the coming year.
Meanwhile, Marcia and I have been hard at work on our latest play, a psychological thriller called Succour. It’s a psychological thriller about identity theft. As I write this, we’re preparing for a staged reading of the first draft at Toronto’s Performing Arts Lodge this week. We’ll be very curious to hear the audience’s thoughts. Deadline, our sixth play which was published by Broadway Licensing last spring, is now available on their Playscripts website. You can find out more about it here. There’s a button on that page that allows you to read an excerpt from the play if you’re so inclined.
As far as acting work goes, I just did a day on a limited series yesterday which I can’t say anything about yet, as it won’t be released for a few months. More anon.
In the meantime, I’m hoping to take a little trip to Spain and Poland in April. I hope to flog some of our plays to some theatre companies in Madrid, Warsaw and Cracow. Marcia and I are also trying to get some productions of a few of our plays in Germany, as we now have three of them translated into German. I’ll post any developments here as they develop…
